Meek Photo Session

My fabulous co-worker was kind enough to ask me to photograph her kids for their annual Christmas card. I took the opportunity to do more then just a Christmas card shot, but to practice shooting her teenagers in various settings. I chose the same location as the Trent family becuase I felt comfortable with the lighting. I think I'm ready to move on to newer and more interesting locations :)

One Cute Little Boy

I just love the curls on this little boy. I snapped this photo of my friends kid while we were at the park (just before leaving to do the family shoot). It's good to know that my focus issues from the family shoot were mostly because of moving targets :)

First Family Session

Okay, so then the day came for the real shoot. We did the shoot late in the evening and it was cloudy and threatening to rain. So needless to says, it was nothing like my practice shoot which made me very nervous. I noticed I still have some focus issues to work on and still had several throw-outs due to exposure.

Practice Shoot

I offered to take some photos of some family friends for practice, and they were happy to oblige. Of course now that I scheduled and entire family to dress up and meet me on a location, I figured I needed to get some practice shots in the day before. I mostly practiced with a teddy bear (they sit still), but my son actually stood with the teddy bear a few times and was still enough for me to snap a couple pictures worth post processing.

Adirondack Mountains

Aside from the rain and the cloudy day's, I was able to get a couple nice shots from a boat ride. The lodge we stayed at had dear that would come to the window asking for bread.

Adirondack Mountains Mini Photo Session

Things have been so crazy I have put photography on a hold. I had the opportunity to spend some time in the Adirondack Mountians this week and was reluctantly given permission to take a couple practice shots of a fellow preggo co-worker for practice. I'm glad she let me becuase the fall colors were beautiful and really make for a good photo-op. As an added bonus, I actually set my camera and passed it over to someone else :)

Eye Doctor

BEFORE
AFTER

Thought I would play around with a nifty new eye doctor action I got. Might have overdone the catchlights, but a fun tool never the less.

Practice Session

I borrowed my niece and swindled my fabulous friend, Stephanie, into showing me a few tips and pointers for photographing kids (or people in general). After a quickie session with my niece, we had Mexican food and Margaritas while she shared with me her post processing workflow technique. A huge thanks to Stephanie for bumping up my pp skills and helping me with my exposure (which still needs a lot of practice).

Alaska

These are a few landscape shots I enjoyed taking.

Boardwalk

We went on a nature walk in a wildlife sanctuary and Jacob started posing on this boardwalk. I started to snap away with little thought of my camera settings. I tried to adjust for this in Bridge, but it needs some more help. The poses are still adorable though :)

Color

I loved the opportunity for color in these photos. I realized later that I made most of my scenery shots using f22, forgetting that since there was nothing in the forefront I probably should have shot it at f11 and had a more crisp image. Next time I'll remember the tips I read :)

Practicing with Shutter Speed - "Cotton Candy Effect"

Here is a practice shot practicing for that 'cotton candy' effect. I took this photograph while we were hiking in Juneau. I didn't have a tri-pod, so I set my camera on the bridge and snapped away (not so good for composition).

Alaskan Sunset Setup

Alaska was beautiful! Snow capped mountains, whales, crisp air, glassy water....ahhhh, it's relaxing just to remember. Our days were busy and I didn't really have many opportunities to practice some photography. However; when the kiddo was asleep, I had the opportunity to pull the tri-pod out and take a stab at sunsets. Above is one of my favorite sunset pictures and then a snap shot of my setup with my husbands cannon point-n-shoot.

Butterflies

We spent Memorial Day morning at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Jacob is very intrested in bugs these days, so we decided to visit the butterfly exhibit. I'm glad I brought my camera, becuase it's amazing how well butterflies photograph!
